Urbandale Tourney
Jan 6th, 2010, 5:59pm

I thought I'd post this while it was crappy outside since this tourney is cursed with weird weather every year!

The Urbandale Tournament (name to be determined later) will be held on Friday, May 21st and Saturday May 22nd.  With Sunday the 23rd being a rain date.

Format will be something that gets everyone at least three games.  Or if you're Stover, 8 in one day.  Tongue

niners were victims of their own exaggerated expectations last year. even  though they have lost some very good players (thank you for blake), anyone who takes them lightly or who doesn't believe they will be a potentially great team, is a moron.

to quote one CR intellectual; "It's a two horse race this year, Stover and CJ's."

See you in the finals Boz.......hope you pitchin.......

don't we (Old Timer) have 3 teams playing in this year's Urbandale tourney? I mean, come on, with our 95 player roster we should be able to field 3 teams!!! It's kind of like our collegiate spring football game--we're dressing everybody and everybody gets to play!

Goose,
Order of appearance.  Since Joe brought it to my attention that I forgot them I figured I better make it official.  Keep stirring the pot though...love it!

To be REALLY official: only 4 teams are "in"  (aka paid)

Come on guys, time to start drumming up the teams that are sitting on the fence.  If there are any teams out there that are scared away by the entry fee, IM me.  A deal can be worked.  M'town and Carroll A & B teams are encouraged to attend.  Smiley

2 weeks left.  I'd like to think we could get 16 at least.

"The Urbandale Tournament (name to be determined later) will be held on Friday, May 21st and Saturday May 22nd.  With Sunday the 23rd being a rain date."

"OLD TIMER will be having a tourney May 21-22 at the 6th St. Complex. $150 entry fee. $100-$125 entry for new or B league teams(based on umps)"

ok... cause ya see if I was looking at those two different posts from this website I would get the idea that there were two tournaments on the same day... But apparently its just me that could confuse that... i mean with the same days of the week and the same days of the month

4 Group round robin format with 2 single elimination brackets following.   Top 8 in top bracket, bottom 8 in bottom bracket.

Groupings:

Group A:
Tides
Emil's Deli
Yankee Clipper
Overtime

Group B:
CJ's
Pat Clemons
Old Timer
Stadium

Group C:
Stover
Homerun
3Bag
Bye

Group D:
Niners
New Way
Johnny & Mike's
Seidl

Tie breakers:
1) Record
2) Head-to-Head
3) Avg. Runs per game
4) Lowest Avg. Runs Against
5) Coin Toss

Win vs. Bye = Win and game not counted towards averages. Bye falls into bottom bracket and will fight tooth and against the top seed in that bracket.

Schedule to come. Games start Friday at 7pm.

After sobering up from the drawing I've decided that the top 8 teams will fill the top single elimination bracket and the bottom 7 teams will fill the bottom single elimination bracket.

Bye can go drinking after the round robin.  The rest of the games schedule still to come.

Mike,
What are the payouts now?  In your original post, it sounded like you were paying winner's & loser's bracket wins and it wasn't pool play.  Just wondering if pool play games were worth $ or if you were paying a different way now.

Payouts:

Top Bracket Win = $100
Bottom Bracket Win = $50

If the winner of the Bottom bracket is the team that received the bye at the start of the bracket, that team wins an additional $50. To even out the monies.

I just wanted to add, since I know there will be some, any complaints with the drawing results can be brought to the attention of the drawee,  my 3 year-old daughter.

Although you'd have a better chance of convincing me than her.   Cheesy

So there is no payouts for pool wins?  So basically...
15 teams x $175.00 (+2balls) = $2,625.00
and the most the top bracket winner can win is $300.00?
and the total payout is only $1,050.00?
Where does the other $1,575.00 go?  Can't imagine it's that much for umps and field rental?

Am I missing something?

I didn't say it would change if we're playing or not, that's not my call anyways as I'm just a pawn, but it just seems the payout is way out of whack IMO.  Just wondering where the rest of the buy-in goes?
